How to change your Wi-Fi password and name on your Zyxel router

Change the Wi-Fi network name and password on your Zyxel broadband router to keep your network secure.

This article explains how to change your Wi-Fi password and network name on your Zyxel broadband router. Changing your password helps protect your network from unauthorised access, and changing the network name lets you set something recognisable for your business.

Access your router settings

  1. Open your browser, enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter.

  1. Enter your username and password. The default username is admin and the default password is printed on the back of the router. If you have changed it before, use your own password.

  2. Select Login.

  1. Select Network Settings at the bottom of the page, then select Wireless.

Change your Wi-Fi network name

  1. Locate the Wireless Network Name field.

  2. Delete the existing name and enter your new network name.

Change your Wi-Fi password

  1. Scroll down to the Security Level section.

  2. Make sure Security Level is set to More Secure and Security Mode is set to WPA2-PSK.

  3. If Generate password automatically is ticked, untick it.

  4. Enter your new Wi-Fi password. It must be at least 8 characters long.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Apply to save your changes.

Please note: after changing your Wi-Fi name or password, all connected devices will be disconnected. You will need to reconnect each device using the new network name and password.
