How to Change Your Wi-Fi Password and Name on Your Zyxel Router

This article explains how to change your Wi-Fi password and network name on your Zyxel broadband router. Changing your Wi-Fi password helps protect your network from unauthorised access, and changing the network name allows you to set a recognisable name for your business.

How to access your router settings

  1. Open your browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar, then press Enter.

  1. Enter your username and password. The default username is admin. The default password is printed on the back of the router. If you have previously changed the password, use the password you set.
  2. Select Login.

  1. Select Network Settings at the bottom of the page, then select Wireless.

How to change your Wi-Fi network name

  1. Locate the Wireless Network Name field.
  2. Delete the existing name and enter your new Wi-Fi network name.

How to change your Wi-Fi password

  1. Scroll down to the Security Level section.
  2. Make sure Security Level is set to More Secure and Security Mode is set to WPA2-PSK.
  3. If the Generate password automatically checkbox is ticked, untick it.
  4. Enter your new Wi-Fi password in the password field. The password must be at least 8 characters long.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Apply to save your changes.
Please note: After changing your Wi-Fi name or password, all devices currently connected to your network will be disconnected. You will need to reconnect each device using the new network name and password.
