How to check your fibre setup

Modified on Tue, 13 Feb 2024 at 04:13 AM

If you're experiencing issues with your fibre broadband performance, you should check that your equipment is set up correctly. Even if an engineer installed fibre for you, wires can easily become loose over time or get knocked out of place. You should also make sure that your router is set to 'Fibre' mode.

Choose your setup from the options below:

Fibre setup with an Openreach modem:

When checking your setup you should look at the following:

  • The grey broadband cable should be connected to your Openreach modem (via a microfilter if applicable).
  • You should use the original cable supplied by Openreach, not an extension.
  • Make sure the cable is connected securely at both ends.
  • The yellow ethernet cable should be connected to your Openreach modem and your router.
  • The cable should be connected to the 'LAN' port on your Openreach modem.
  • Make sure the other end is connected to the red 'WAN' port or 'LAN4' port on your router.
  • Make sure the cable is connected securely at both ends.
  • For a wired connection - the yellow Ethernet cable should be connected to your 'Super Router' and your computer
  • The cable should be connected to one of the yellow 'LAN' ports on your router.
  • The other end should be connected to the ethernet port on your computer.
  • Make sure the cable is connected securely at both ends.
